How do I use the Message Board or Forum?
When you first get there you will see the forum page. On the far right hand side you will see "login" or "join". If this is your first visit click on "join". If you have already joined clcick login. Enter your user name and password.
Next, you will be taken to another screen. Here you can join the community. For the user name type any name you would like to be seen by others when you post a topic or comment. Enter a password that you will remember (at least 4 letters or numbers).
Click create user.
The next screen will take you into the forum area. You will be able to comment or start topics immediately. Here is what that screen will look like.
On the top right of the screen you will see your user name, if you have messages, a link to edit your profile and logout (to leave).
You will notice on your left hand side the forum is broken in to categories and sub-categories. You can click on any of these. Don't worry about getting lost or confused, you can always get back to the main page by clicking the big "Forum" text in the top right hand corner.
On the left is all the categories listed on the forum. In the () is the number of posts there. This is meant to be a quick way of navigating the topics.
On a larger view you can see :
Category: What the topics in this section are about.
Topics: How many topics there are within the section
Posts: how many people have responded to topics
Last Post: Shows you who posted it and how long it has been since the last post in this section.
Start Topic: The white space on the top right of each section means you do not have to click into the section to start a topic. Just type your title/topic there.
If you click on a category you will see the topics already there, who started it and when. AS well as the number of replies, views and the last post.
On any page or topic you may search topics for interest in your area.
Below that is a green "start a topic" that is a quick way to start a topic of discussion.
Once you see a topic you may be interested in click the topic. In this case "Kettle Creek" and it will take you to the discussion going on there. It will look like this. You can then reply and give a commnet on the topic.
When you see something you want to reply to just click the reply button on the bottom of any of the comments and it will put up the reply window. Type your response and click submit at the bottom.
Just for your information: the topic you are replying to is above you in this section. If you lose your train of thought just scroll up and you will see the entire conversation and comments there.
Just like the response, when you start a topic you will notice that it will say so at the top of the page. Just below that is "start a poll" (I will discuss this later). In the subject, type the title in this section just as you would your email. The body is the statement, question or comment.
There is an attachment button at the bottom that will let you choose a file from your computer to share with the topic.
Below that you will see all the categories of this forum. A check mark will place your topic in any category or sub-category you wish. Use this if your topic fits into more than one area.
